Rose

This is my still life painting today. This is the first time I attempted a flower from still life. I painted in oil. To get the lightest part, I subtracted paint from the canvas. I highly recommend matching colors, identifying lights and darks, squinting for negative space, drawing the background, being specific *especially on the up close important parts, painting the sides, and signing with oilier paint than the rest of the canvas. Some parts are too oily and I'll try to fix them after it dries more.

I improved this a bit more after taking this pic and will probably hit it again tomorrow after it's dry. It would be awesome if I could get that meniscus texture of the fuzzy velvety top layer on the dark luster rose color in the right bottom spot. …
