This painting commemorates 30 years of teaching for my Mom. She commissioned me and I delivered it on her birthday. I was so inspired I painted it in two days. In the painting, you’ll find our turtle, Highway, crawling on the floor, an MC Hammer poster from her German days, her drum set she inspired a pep band with, a teapot her mom china painted, a tablecloth her mother-in-law hand made, a long stem rose she would give to her students, her Teacher of the Year award, and a picture of mountain goats from climbing Mt. Elinor with her sherpa teaching friend. Outside the window she’s playing sousaphone from the sunroof of her car for a friend’s retirement. Behind her is our old red ford truck and another middle school building she taught in. My mom has to heal a lot from teaching and I hope this painting can help her remember the good times.
