Piano Day 2

I have a lot to fix: left music stand tray thing is too narrow, piano keys more clear on 2’s vs. 3’s black keys, the right brown wood lip above the lid needs to go up, and the lid more accurately described. 

I’m thinking of keeping my palette limited to my three colors: brown, blue, yellow oh four colors! Paynes Grey.

I’m going to use the actual piano as a model instead of a printed out black n white pic now I think. 

I might bring two ukes from school to make sure I get the angles right and add a good shadow.  

Tiffany's Piano

Here’s day one of Tiffany’s piano. 

I woke at 5:00am saying, “Wow I love Mornings.” I might be a morning person haha. I wanted to work and decided that candle light and Christmas tree with a dark morning would show contrast, depth and shadows. I set up two violins that will turn into ukuleles. I opened up my piano and took my third session of a lot of pictures even after I had my friend Chrissie go to great lengths to get a great shot for me.

It’s pretty mandatory that I get a feeling like it will be good in every way before I begin, so I work like that or else my painting isn’t good and nags at me the whole time if I’m not working with a good reference.

I had to consider balancing the cobalt blue and lemon yellow of their ukuleles in a way that didn’t look like a joke and was still classy and timeless. I wanted the keys to be placed well on the page with the golden ratio n all. I didn’t want much background so the pic would apply to more places, like a music classroom. I wanted to get all the keys in too. I don’t want to cheat any keys out of the pic.

Just thoughtful.

I chose a straight on pose for these reasons: no background, all keys, balance the stuff on the piano (I don’t want the rosary too much of a focus because I don’t know much about it and would get it wrong), more about the keys balanced on the canvas so I can have artistic expression on them. I brought out their school colors (blue and yellow) with photo editor, which was kind of a miracle and the main reason I finally had a clearer vision for this piece.

My vision is yellow background on left transforming to blue lined (tongue-groove wall) background on the right, blue keys on left, yellow keys on right. Brown tiger striped grand piano possibly showing gold harp inside.

I had to redo it because it wasn’t balanced on the page well. It’s too far to the left.

Here I tried adding piano keys, but it’s still too far left. 

So I redid it and then my daughter bumps the projector and I redid it a third time just because I wanted the proportions right, then I bumped the projector (*slighlty imploded) ...and turned the projector off.

Calling this my starting point!

I think I’ll extend the book to the left and transform it into their actual hymnal booklet.
