Practicing

I am learning to use acrylics and speed paint for the Seattle Art Battle.

Below is my first attempt at a 20 min painting. I’m using pictures I took at Fort Warden in Port Townsend, Wa. Eventually, I have to paint from memory.

This one is the best because I worked with a good picture used two skills: vanishing point and lights n darks are close:

My third isn’t that good because of the composition. There isn’t a vanishing point, so it’s difficult to describe what’s going on easily.

Then, I went back to a vanishing point picture and it was easier.

On Mr. “Snow” , I mostly just changed his background color to blue instead of green and happened to make dragon scales.

His face and hair will take a very patient day.

Five Paintings this week!

I started painting in my kitchen because it’s a better place than my art room upstairs. I can take care of two high-maintenance dogs from there, answer the door for deliveries, eat, dance, and be merry.

The music that has been helping me paint is music I don’t know at all, but other people like a lot. I learn to appreciate it and it doesn’t bore me.

These are for friends and family. They are images that mean a lot to the people they’re for. I get energy from thinking of what the image means to the person. I also get energy thinking of the person it’s for and sort of feel united with them more when I paint for them. Because of this, I don’t yet feel lonely as an artist.

My Great Aunt Bummy’s Dad.  I need to smooth out his lower face a bit. Guns snd Roses helped me with this one.

My husband’s cousin’s dog.  I need to tone down the neck hair. I believe The Eagles helped me finish her.

My friend’s late cat Finnegan.

I am struggling with the eyes a bit on this one.  I can get the canvas to unstretch by putting hot water on the inside.

I’m struggling with matching the pupils on this one.  I finally figured out the cat’s look because I remembered I thought he looked like an owl the first time I saw him.
